January 30, 2013: An Interesting Thought
Barack Obama, the current president of our nation, was recently reelected for his second term. His job is exceedingly stressful and hard on him. One day under a mountain of stress, he seems loaded with thoughts and needs some guidance. George Washington comes to his mind. Washington, one of the founding fathers of our nation, was around in a time period much different than the one known to us today. He was also the first president of our nation and I would imagine he was stressed to the max trying to piece together a nation in the condition ours was in. Because Washington did have a successful term, he is an inspiration for Obama and serves as a good example/guide when needed. Obama was tranquilized after recalling the success of Washington's presidency and went back to work.

January 29, 2013: The School's Windows
These windows at our school are very old. I do not think they seal off properly because there is often a draft near them even when they are shut. They are not thick, actually quite thin. However,on the bright side they do at least open therefore they do serve their purpose, to an extent.
Today just so happens to be a rather windy day and the windows are definitely sticking out to me. When the wind blows, it can be heard through the windows that have air conditioner units. The wind is heard because the window is not sealed and it actually makes a loud distraction in most of my classes. This is annoying because I am listening to the wind and becoming annoyed instead of listening to the class which often aggravates my teachers.
FYI these windows are annoying and disruptive and I do not like them.

January 28, 2013: Apples & Oranges
Apples and oranges are both fruits that most people eat. They both have a skin, although the texture and thickness of the skin is different. The skin of an apple is thin and satiny with a smooth texture while an orange's skin is thick and smooth but with little holes.
Apples are red, green or yellow and oranges are orange. Oranges only come in one color. Apples have little "stands" on their bottom to help them sit perfectly on a counter whereas an orange is completely rounded. Apples have stems and oranges typically do not when they are purchased. Also, apples can either be peeled or eaten with the skin but oranges are normally peeled before consumption.
An apple doesn't have much flavor to me; red apples are kind of sweet but the skin makes it a little sour. However, yellow and green apples are quite tart with or without the peel. Oranges are sweet when they are ripe but can be a little sour if they were picked early.

January 25, 2013: Aglets
Our teacher announced today that we were to make a post about aglets. Now for those of you who don't know wat aglet are, they are the plastic end to a shoelace. Immediately after being told about this I thought of the Phineas and Ferb television show that dedicated a whole episode to educating people about aglets.
This episode is quite interesting because Phineas and Ferb spent an entire day wearing shoelaces tied around their fingers and telling random people about aglets. At the end of the show they performed a song strictly talking about aglets. It was quite catchy and I'm sure a ton of kids and possibly their parents now know what aglets are.

January 23, 2013: Movies vs. TV
Two common forms of popular entertainment, movies and TV shows are abundant in our culture. When watching either there is always the question which is better? I believe that movies are better. TV shows are short, usually about thirty minutes sometimes an hour, but some of that time is filled with commercials. TV shows always end on a cliff so that one will return to watch the next episode. Of course I do watch TV and have some shows that I greatly enjoy but I dislike the commercials.
However, movies are quite different. Movies develop their characters and tell a story over the course of two or so hours. I would much rather sit down and watch a movie and know the ending versus having to wait a week for another episode. Movies are definitely the way to go.

January 22, 2013: Bubble Gum!
Bubble gum! I love gum. I always want some after lunch, especially when I'm at school. That way I don't have to worry about what my breath smells like. I love the kind that makes ginormous bubbles. Sometimes I get in trouble by me teachers for popping my gum and blowing bubbles but I still like it. I also like the minty flavors such as spearmint or fresh mint. However, I think my all time favorite gum is the old fashioned pink bubble gum. It's traditional but it makes huge bubbles.
Getting and keeping gumat school is the hardest thing to do. One has to be extremely secretive because if anyone knows of the person having gum, then everyone will know. Then there is none left for tomorrow and everyone swarms the one person who has gum and it is awfully annoying if you're that person.

January 18, 2013: TIssues
Tissues, tissues, everyone has needed them at some point or another. They are helpful to have when one is sick and especially during allergy season which, if you're like me, can come at any time throughtout the year.
Tissues are extremely handy and thay have been made even more handy because they come in all different sizes. There are boxes of tissues that can be set on desks, counters, tables, etc. These boxes can be long and short or cubeshaped. There are also pocket size tissues that have easily-torn plastic around them for quick access.
Also, tissues have different textures and thicknesses depending on the manufacturer. I personally like the fluffy, soft ones but some people may prefer the paperlike ones.

January 21, 2013: Bob's Trip
Bob was an interesting man. He did a variety of things but one thing he had not attempted was to pilot an airplane. One day he decided he wanted to learn so he did just that. Bob found a person that would teach him and eventually he caught on. Now he has his own airplane that he flies everywhere.
One hot summer afternoon he decides to take a particularly longer trip than usual. He was all set and left rather quickly. After being in the air for a little while he realizes it is exceedingly warm so he turns on the air conditioner. It makes a weird noise and shuts off so he decides to go without.
A little time passed and he discovered that he was, in fact, drenched with sweat; it was extremely hot. It was so warm in the plane that he had to land it immediately. He didn't know exactly what was underneath him but he was sure he could find a place to land, after all it seemed to have been an emergency. Oddly enough, Bob landed his plane in an open area next door to a warehouse full of air conditioners and air conditioner parts.

January 17, 2013: Texting in Class
Is texting in class morally acceptable? Whether it is or not, most everyone can agree that they either have sent at least one message in class and if not, then they have most likely witnessed someone else do it. I think it is a safe assumption that most or even all students nowadays text in class.
Personally, I don't like when studdens text while the teacher is teaching; it is simply disrespectful. However, if it's at the end of class or if it is a free day or an emergency then I don't find it offensive. In fact, the idea that students aren't supposed to use their phones in class only makes them more desireable. Sometimes I think students text just to say they did and if it wasn't against the rules they probably wouldn't do it as often.
I'm sure teachers despise when their students text in class but I have found that several of them text during class. Countless times I have seen a teacher pull out there phone and respond to a text or have their phone go off in the middle of class. How is this any different than students texting in class? As long as students pay attention while the teacher is talking I don't see what the big deal is with texting while in class.

January 15, 2013: Pencil Sharpener
It is an odd-looking object. It has a rounded head but flat on one side with a small opening. From this head sticks out a short rod with a handle that is only big enough to pinch between one's thumb and index finger. Wooden sticks with lead inside are placed in the small opening, a sound is made, and when the stick is pulled out it is sharpened to a point.
Someone reading this may have figured out what I was talking about but to those who didn't I am describing a pencil sharpener. This may seem like a random object to be discussing, however, when I look up from my computer I see it sticking out from the wall. It is there because I am currently sitting at a computer in a classroom.

January 14, 2013: MSU vs. U of A
The first college I will be talking about is Missouri State University. I visited this college last year while accompaning my sister on her visit. I greatly enjoyed this visit because the guide was nice and enthusiastic about the college. She was trying to sell her college while giving substantial information. The campus was quite spread out and it seemed like a job to get from building to building depending on where a student's classes are located. However, I liked the dorms of MSU because they showed visitors the differnet types and personally I would want to live in the apartment type dorms that don't use a community bathroom. The dining areas were nice and easily accessed from most places.
Another college I have visited is the University of Arkansas. This was probably my favorite tour and it rained the entire time so that should say something. The people were friendly all around and answered any questions one might pose. They were also set on selling their college and I think they did a fantastic job. Because it was raining, one would think the tour of the campus would be dreadful; however I took it as an opportunity to observe the college life. I learned a lot about the campus and I thought the academic buildings were closer together. They also weren't very far from the dorms which was good for days when it's raining. There was a lot of history to the college, especially particular buildings. I could definitely see the different architectual stylesand I greatly enjoyed seeing them. The campus is absolutely beautiful. The dorms were not as nice as MSU's but I only saw one dorm while visiting. I saw the outside of several others but I cannot recall their setup. The dining areas were nice and I saw different restaurants on campus but the main focus on the tour was the different academic buildings a student might attend.
I think my choice is quite obvious. I thought U of A was great.

January 11, 2013: Sand
When our English teacher announced that we were to write today on sand, I think everyone responded with a confused look. After all, how much can one person say about sand? Well we are about to find out.
Sand, upon first thought, does not sound appealing. Sure, it is better than dirt or mud but it is still grimy. It leaves you feeling dirty and unhappy.
Sand could make a person think of their childhood, as it did me after more consideration. I thought of my childhood because I would spend a lot of time playing in a sand box with my sister. I remember fighting over the toys because that's what we would spend most of our time doing.
From a more general standpoint, sand made me think of beaches and oceans because that is a likely place to find it. I thought of walking barefoot through it and reaching the water's edge while a cool breeze blows. With that in mind sand doesn't seem so dirty but more pleasant. I like beaches and I suppose that means I like sand.
One from nearby might think of sandbags and the flood we had a few years ago. Many of our boys helped sandbag houses so they wouldn't flood. In which case, sand seems helpful and we were lucky to have the bags filled with sand. It saved many houses.
Many purposes for sand.

January 10, 2013: Hershey
Recently, I received or took in a puppy. Her name is Hershey and she is black and brown. Hershey is extremely cute and playful. She has the best personality and loves being around people. She doesn't like to be ignored when she wants attention or bothered when she is sleeping.
I acquired her because a stray dog appeared at my house. This dog we soon found out was a mom and she stuck around until she had her puppies. There were six puppies total, one black and brown, two black and white, and three yellowish tan.
We took four and put them in our fence becasue the mother couldn't possibly care for all of them. For some unknown reason, she thought she could and decided to break them out of our fence while we were gone. All of the puppies left except Hershey. Now she is my baby and she stays in the house with us. She doesn't run away when we let her out to use the bathroom and even if the mom is outside she comes back to our door.
Hershey is a special puppy and for whatever reason she has made our house her home. She cannot be lead astray.

January 9, 2013: An Interesting Experience
Tim is an easy-going, college student who wished to work a part-time job to help pay for his expenses. He decided he would go to work at a nearby department store. He got the job as the cart pusher; therefore, all he must do is retrieve the carts from outside and bring them inside.
At first, Tim finds this job easy enough because the work is not hard and he doesn't have to deal directly with customers which he likes. However, he soon discovers that although he is not speaking to the customers, their rudeness can still be felt. Most customers don't put their carts up where it is easy for workers like Tim to retrieve them. Since the customers don't put the carts up he must walk all over the parking lot gathering carts. After a while this irritates him because inside the store people complain when there aren't enough carts but they won't bother putting them up.
He tolerates this job and the customer's rude behavior for three months before becoming completely enraged. once he reached his breaking point he put in his two week notice and quit.
That was the end of Tim's work experience.

January 8, 2013: Stressful!
Today I wish to talk about something that has been causing me great stress for some time. This topic is our high school's Homecoming. I am a cheerleader and that means that I have to do quite a bit of preparing for this one night. All of this preparing has caused me stress and the stress only increases as the time comes closer.
We must do many things in preparation of Homecoming. One such thing is learning a new dance to be performed that night. This dance must be made, taught, and perfected. It may not sound like intensive work to some but those who have experienced it know it is never an easy feat.
Also we, as cheerleaders, must decorate the gym where our basketball game will be played and our homecoming court will be displayed. Again it may sound simple but it is a big gym and we go all out for our decorations. Besides that small detail, we usually aren't able to begin decorating until the night before wich gives us a limited amount of time to make sure everything is looking good.
Those who are selected to walk in the homecoming court must find dresses and be prepared for that as well and I was fortunate enough to be selected. So I did as tradition says and found my dress and shoes. I have made plans to have my hair done as well.
This may sound like a lot of unnecessary work to some people or even most for only one night but it is a great thing to be a part of and it is a wonderful feeling when everything comes together.

January 7, 2013: Circles vs. Squares
Circles and squares are very different. Personally, I find that circles are better than squares. They have no defined corners or points and they keep going on and on. This is neat because its as though the edge of a circle can go in circles forever.
Circles represent cycles and continuous motion. I think this stands out in a shape because every other shape has corners and comes to a point. Circles are often associated with The Circle of Life and can therefore be linked to every person and everything on the earth. It is astonishing that a simple shape can be linked to so many things.
Just some deeper thoughts on circles.

January 4, 2013: Chairs, Oh My!
Chairs come in many different shapes and sizes. There are tall and short chairs that accomodate a variety of needs for people. Some chairs are made comfortable while others are made sturdy or practical which affects the style of the chair. An example of this is some chairs are made of hard plastic whereas others have padding.
Another varied characteristic of chairs is their color. They come in all different colors from black to neon colors. Also chairs cover a wide range of needs; they are not only furniture or a place for someone to sit. Chairs serve as decoration by adding character or a bit of color to a room even when some chair styles are awkward.
