When our English teacher announced that we were to write today on sand, I think everyone responded with a confused look. After all, how much can one person say about sand? Well we are about to find out.
Sand, upon first thought, does not sound appealing. Sure, it is better than dirt or mud but it is still grimy. It leaves you feeling dirty and unhappy.
Sand could make a person think of their childhood, as it did me after more consideration. I thought of my childhood because I would spend a lot of time playing in a sand box with my sister. I remember fighting over the toys because that's what we would spend most of our time doing.
From a more general standpoint, sand made me think of beaches and oceans because that is a likely place to find it. I thought of walking barefoot through it and reaching the water's edge while a cool breeze blows. With that in mind sand doesn't seem so dirty but more pleasant. I like beaches and I suppose that means I like sand.
One from nearby might think of sandbags and the flood we had a few years ago. Many of our boys helped sandbag houses so they wouldn't flood. In which case, sand seems helpful and we were lucky to have the bags filled with sand. It saved many houses.
Many purposes for sand.
I am like you when I first thought of you I thought of my childhood and the times I have gone to the beach. I didn't think of it being grimy, yes it's true sand is grimy but I think of the happy times and the times that it had saved many homes from being taken away from people. I think that when most people think of sand they would think of dirt and beaches as well.
